Unfair: Scenes like protagonist Patrick Bateman's murder of a colleague set to the Huey Lewis song "Hip to Be Square" carry the movie into the future mostly as social media parodies.

They'll just put "American Psycho," the Huey Lewis scene, his business card scene or whatever on my tombstone, and you have to kind of accept it.

His words eerily prefigure the rise of Andrew Jackson’s “spoils system,” Gov. Huey Long’s Louisiana fiefdom, and our current era of autocracy amplified by social media.

Part of the struggle, of course, is as a Black, South Asian female in the 1980s '90s, and 2000s, who wants to make a change, who grows up in a family, around Huey Newton's trials, all of that, with a mother and father — especially mother, who is just an amazing movie in herself.

“It’s great to see people that think the same, share the same values. And support the same people that you support,” said Jon Huey of Woodland, near Sacramento, adding that it was a contrast from his home state.
