The Highway Code sets out what constitutes a safe stopping distance at various speeds in dry conditions.

The theory test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions testing candidates' knowledge of the Highway Code and guidance on driving skills, for which at least 43 correct answers are required.

The Highway Code says that a driver can be stopped by police to have his driving documents checked at any time without any visible violation of the law.
