Attorney Tom Heffelfinger said after Chauvin was sentenced last month.

Attorney Thomas Heffelfinger said federal judges “more often than not” allow defendants to report only after the Bureau of Prisons has decided where they will serve.

Attorney Tom Heffelfinger said a judge could take such a statement into consideration during sentencing.

“This is his opportunity to say, ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to, I didn’t think, or whatever,’” Heffelfinger said.

Tom Heffelfinger, a former U.S. attorney in Minnesota, said jurors at Chauvin’s trial did express concerns about their safety.
