The man he portrayed, Corby borough councillor Sam Hagen, died in October 2022, a year before filming began.

The Full Monty's Robert Carlyle plays Sam Hagen, a then-Corby Borough Councillor and Downton Abbey's Brendan Coyle, who is from Corby originally, stars as Roy Thomas, a fictional amalgams of several people from the authority.

The investigation focused on a dive that took place in 2022, when paying passenger Fred Hagen heard an “alarming” noise as the sub was returning to the surface.

Passenger Fred Hagen disagreed, describing Mr Rush as a “brilliant man”.

Already a diabetes patient, Mr Hagen's GP increased his medication after results came back which were "through the roof".
