Jairam Ramesh, a spokesman of main opposition Congress party, said the "absurdity of three different tax slabs for popcorn under GST... only brings to light a deeper issue: the growing complexity of a system that was supposed to be a Good and Simple Tax".

She's now telling him that "Sandeep sir" is the real conman and he's pilfered most of the 500,000 rupees Mangesh had been promised, but that he can still get 90,000 rupees if he pays 3,000 rupees as GST.

"This GST is neither applicable nor will it have any impact on the video gaming industry or the esports industry," says Lokesh Suji, director of the Esports Federation of India.

But the imposition of a 28% GST on the full face value of a gaming transaction will mean the entire amount collected from players will now come under the ambit of taxation.

According to industry estimates, total tax collection on player winnings will go beyond 50%, including GST, platform commissions and income taxeswhen the new law is implemented.
