The building trade unions are waking up to the evils of this mass deportation policy because their member, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, has been deported to El Salvador, mistakenly.

I was struck by the fact that a joint statement came out linking Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was working in the building trades, with graduate students who had been deported.

Trump’s approval numbers on his handling of immigration have gone underwater, and voters specifically say that they don’t like the idea of deportations like Abrego Garcia’s going forward without judicial review.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., traveled to El Salvador and demanded to meet Abrego Garcia, noting that if “you deny the constitutional rights of one man, you threaten the constitutional rights of everybody”; a delegation of House Democrats followed suit, draping their cause in the red, white and blue of the flag.

“This is the debate they want,” Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., chimed in earlier this month, describing the Trump administration’s defiance of a Supreme Court order to “facilitate” the return of one man, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, as “the distraction of the day.”
