G. de Lairesse, Portrait-painter.—Gerard de Lairesse was the son of an artist of some celebrity, studied under Bertholet Flemalle, and by the age of sixteen had become known as a portrait-painter.

Some early Flemish artists also rendered Him beardless at times, notably the Maitre de ������������, Van der Weyden, and Quentin Matsys.

From north to south, beginning with those facing the German frontier, their names ran as follows: Barchon, Evegn�e, Fleron, Chaudfontaine, Embourg, Boncelles, Flemalle, Hollogne, Loncin, Lantin, Liers, and Pontisse.
