The rowing will be held in Queensland's Fitzroy River, which is known to host saltwater crocodiles but the government say the waters are safe.

"The strategy involved releasing thousands of eggs, tadpoles and juvenile cane toads into wild waterbodies in the Fitzroy Valley in Western Australia's Kimberley region, immediately ahead of the invasion frontline," says Dr Ward-Fear.

The naturalist named the tall deciduous tree after Beagle captain Robert Fitzroy.

Fitzroy Lee, defending the 12-year-old boy, said his client was in "exactly the same situation".

“Ironic now, thinking about that, right?” she says, in her soft, working-class-accent, on a chilly afternoon, as she tries to find a comfortable position on a sofa in her recently renovated townhouse on Fitzroy Square, a genteel, central-London pocket that was once home to both Virginia Woolf and George Bernard Shaw.
