The Coast Guard called off its search for Dunn on Tuesday, after a 41-hour search that involved crews from the National Park Service, Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, among others.

Brandt often mentioned Jethro Pugh, an unsung defensive lineman taken in the 11th round in 1965 out of tiny Elizabeth City State in North Carolina.

The brothers are from Elizabeth City, North Carolina, a small farming town in the Outer Banks about an hour south of Norfolk, Virginia.

Coast Guard aircraft flying from Elizabeth City, N.C., and Savannah, Ga., also are involved.
