Easter Island

Records show that medals were distributed to locals in more than 30 locations that Captain Cook and his crews visited across the pacific, including Tahiti, Easter Island and New Zealand.

When his partner wanted to plan a trip to Easter Island—in Chile—Adams “repeatedly asked her whether the Turkish Airline could be used for their flights, requiring her to call the Turkish Airline to confirm that they did not have routes between New York and Chile.”

The British Museum has been subject to a campaign by social media users in Chile demanding the return of a stone monument taken from Easter Island.

The museum has two moai statues which were taken from the Chilean territory of Rapa Nui, or Easter Island, in 1868.

It has also had medicinal plants, exotic plants from Europe and Asia, a large collection of species from the remote Juan Fernández Islands in the Pacific, and some of the world’s last known Sophora toromiro trees, which are native to Rapa Nui, or Easter Island, but are now extinct in the wild.
