Discovery Day

In 1892, President Benjamin Harrison said the entire country should observe “Discovery Day” to mark the 400th anniversary of Columbus’s landing.

"Discovery Day" – an open day for any unpublished writer to pitch to an agent – was designed to open up the doors of the seemingly inward-looking publishing industry.

In keeping with Discovery Day, the whole courtyard has been outfitted like one of Columbus’ ships.
