Crummock Water

Emergency services have been searching Crummock Water since a man, believed to be in his 30s and from London, got into difficulties on 16 July.

Police divers, mountain rescue volunteers, a coastguard team, firefighters and the ambulance service were all involved in the search at Crummock Water.

Even Buttermere and Crummock Water can get spooky after dark.

The older, a sedimentary slaty series of Ordovician age, the Skiddaw slates, surrounds Bassenthwaite, Saddleback, Crummock Water, Keswick and Cockermouth and the western end of Ennerdale Water.

The best way up it is to follow the course of Ruddy Beck from the southernmost corner of Crummock Water, but the rocky amphitheatre in which Bleaberry Tarn lies is better seen if the somewhat rougher route by Sourmilkgill and its east bank be followed.
