Canadian farmers have lobbied the government in Ottawa to veto the ratification of the UK's membership of the trans-Pacific trade deal, the CPTPP.

Faced with questions on the UK's membership of a wider Trans-Pacific Partnership, known as CPTPP, Ms Badenoch refused to be drawn on whether Britain would support China or Taiwan joining the trade bloc.

The U.K. also has joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership, or CPTPP, an Asia-Pacific trade bloc that includes Japan and 10 other nations.

It said accession decisions are dependent upon consensus, and since July, they have been "gathering information on whether aspirant economies can meet CPTPP’s high standards."

Albanese has signaled that Australia won’t back China’s bid to join the free trade agreement known as the 12-nation Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, or the CPTPP, saying China did not live up to the proposed standards.
