Guatemalan Attorney General Consuela Porras, accused by the U.S. government of corruption, has pursued a criminal investigation against Arevalo as well as his center-left Seed Movement party since before his election.

They sometimes drew on the singing talents of Mr. Lee and his two sisters, Consuela Lee Moorehead, a jazz pianist and music teacher at Hampton University in Virginia, and Grace Lee Mims, a librarian, whose voices lent grandiloquent color to the tales.

In addition to his sisters Consuela and Grace, he had four other siblings, Clifton, Arnold Jr., Leonard and Clarence.

Mr. Lee’s sister Consuela died at 83 in 2009.

“������ you want to say and what you are allowed to say are different,” Consuela said.
