The mission will be run from a military base in Larissa in central Greece under the command of Greek navy Cdre.

Air Cdre Phil Brooker, principal engineer at DE&S, said it was a "significant milestone in the maturity of the UK's F-35 National Support Solution".

"I have always thought of myself as a naval officer first, then a logistics officer, then Jude, and finally as a female," Cdre Terry added.

Cdre Terry joined the navy in 1997 and has spent most of her career in Plymouth-based warships, including survey vessel HMS Scott and two spells with helicopter carrier HMS Ocean.

Cdre Terry will take on the roles of the Royal Navy's director of people and training and naval secretary.
