Patrick, 35, is an amateur rider as a sideline to being his father's assistant at a training establishment in County Carlow that stands head and shoulders ahead of its jump racing rivals.

"I think he's got just lots of heart," Mullins told BBC Sport at his sprawling Closutton stables in County Carlow.

He travelled to Ireland on numerous occasions to track down his ancestors, some of which he found in Clonmesh graveyard in Ballyloo, County Carlow.

In the Republic of Ireland a status orange wind warning for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford is in force until 17:00, while an orange warning for rain is in place for Cork, Kerry and Waterford until 15:00.
