Broadmoor

In my 30 years as a forensic psychiatrist and psychotherapist working in psychiatric hospitals and prisons across the UK, including Broadmoor, I have spoken to hundreds of criminals who have committed terrible offences in an attempt to help them take responsibility.

In 1996, soon after I’d started at Broadmoor while completing my psychotherapy training, I took on a patient called Tony.

Later, he joined a therapy group that I was running at Broadmoor Hospital.

Patients and staff were moved into the new Broadmoor Hospital, a £250m high-security site for men detained under the Mental Health Act.

Flames were seen in a derelict building at the old Broadmoor Hospital site on Chaplains Hill in Crowthorne, Berkshire, just after 09:30 BST.
