Biratnagar

It’s an 18-hour bus journey from her home near Biratnagar to Kathmandu: too far and too expensive for her parents to visit.

The family took Paniya, then 14, to a private clinic near their home on the outskirts of Biratnagar, a city in southern Nepal, where they were sold lotions and pills and told not to worry.

It was confirmed they would be working in the east, in Biratnagar.

In March 2018 Gillian Kellie and Rosemary Boere, two of the nurses back in 1968, visited the hospital at Biratnagar along with Peter Hawksworth, the team's handyman.

The team settled in and soon established a new children's ward at Biratnagar Zonal Hospital under Dr Bharat Raj Baidya.
