Belovo

Mr. Piyalkin, who was 55 years old, was one of 46 miners and six rescuers killed Thursday by the explosion at the Listvyazhnaya mine in Belovo, about 2,200 miles east of Moscow and two hours south of Kemerovo.

The Listvyazhnaya coal mine in Belovo in southwestern Siberia, which started operating in 1956, had been through a period of strife over the past year.

In another accident in the nearby Belovo region of Kemerovo, a section of a coal mine collapsed, trapping four workers.
