German footballing legend Franz Beckenbauer, snooker's first TV star Ray Reardon, and marathon world champion Kevin Kiptum all died in 2024.

Nicknamed "Der Kaiser", German footballer Franz Beckenbauer was widely regarded as one of the game's greatest players.

Franz Beckenbauer also played 582 times for Bayern Munich and won the German top-flight as both player and manager.

Fans in the “Südkurve” paid respect to deceased club great Franz Beckenbauer with a huge red-and-white choreography before kickoff.

Germany were managed by Franz Beckenbauer, who died aged 78 in January, at the 1990 World Cup.
