By it the English king renounced his claim to Normandy, Maine, Anjou, Touraine, and Poitou, while Louis IX. ceded to Henry the Limousin, P�rigord, and part of Saintonge, besides the reversion of Agenais and Quercy.

The Journal de Lot et Garonne states that in the church of the Mas-d'Agenais, Count Eug�ne de Lonley has discovered, in the sacristy, concealed beneath dust and spiders' webs, the 'Dying Christ,' painted by Rubens in 1631.

King John ceded Poitou, Saintonge, Agenais, P�rigord and Limousin to Edward III., and was offered his liberty for a ransom of three million gold crowns; but, unable to pay that enormous sum, he returned to his agreeable captivity in London, where he died in 1364.

In the south this campaign marked real progress, not mere objectless plunder, for it was followed by the reconquest of great districts in P�rigord and the Agenais, which had been lost to England since the 13th century.
