The BBC spoke to the families of Rezhwan Hassan, 19, and Afrasia Mohammed, 27, last week before their deaths were confirmed on Tuesday.

Rezhwan and Afrasia were both from the town of Rania, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Also in the boat was his friend, Afrasia Mohamed.

His sister, Nergiz Ahmed Mohammed, says Afrasia believed that the UK promised him a brighter future.

At least 12,000 of Turkey’s millionaires — around 12 percent of the country’s wealthy class — moved their assets out of the country in 2016 and 2017, according to the Global Wealth Migration Review, an annual report produced by AfrAsia Bank.
