Virginia plan vs. New Jersey plan

Virginia plan vs. New Jersey plan: 's the difference?

The Virginia plan and the New Jersey plan were two different proposals at the 1787 U.S. Constitutional Convention regarding how to ensure that all states received equal representation in the new federal government. The Virginia plan proposed (among other things) two legislative (lawmaking) houses, both with representation proportional to population. The New Jersey plan proposed one house with equal representation for each state. The convention settled on the Connecticut Compromise, which produced the current arrangement consisting of two houses, one with equal representation for each state (the Senate) and one with proportional representation (the House of Representatives).
