social democracy vs. democratic socialism: 's the difference?

The terms social democracy and democratic socialism are both used and interpreted in various ways, with different distinctions made between them by different people. Though they are often applied in different contexts (social democracy is commonly used in the context of European political parties), the terms have much overlap: both often refer to ideologies or systems that involve a gradual transition to socialism (or a modified form of it) by and under democratic political processes (as opposed to revolution, for example).
