null hypothesis vs. alternative hypothesis: 's the difference?
When formulating a formal scientific hypothesis, you should have a null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis. The null hypothesis (often called H0) is the idea that there is no relationship between the variables you’re studying. The alternative hypothesis (often called H1) is the idea that there is a relationship between the variables you’re studying. An example set might be H1: “Cats meow more when they are hungry” vs H0: “Cats do not meow more when they are hungry.”
