em dash vs. en dash

em dash vs. en dash: ’s the difference?

En dashes (–) are specifically used in ranges, basically as a substitute for the word to, as in 1994–1995 or 900–999 or A–Z. Em dashes (—) can be used in place of commas and parentheses to offset parenthetical information in a sentence—like this. They’re named after their length: an en dash is the length of the letter N; the longer em dash the length of the letter M.
