British English (the variety of English used in Great Britain) and American English (the variety used in the U.S.) have many differences in spelling, vocabulary, and usage. Notable spelling differences include the British use of the letter u in words like colour and favourite, the ending -re in words like centre, and the use of the ending -ise in words like criticise (as opposed to the American spellings color, favorite, center, and criticize). Of course, many of the differences between them also exist in and among other varieties of English.
